Frequently asked questions
What is Diavgeia?
Diavgeia (diavgeia.gov.gr, Greek for “clarity”) is the programme established by Law 3861/2010, under which Greek public bodies are required to publish their acts online, including payments, contract awards, appointments and regulatory acts. Many of these acts cannot take effect until they are published.
Is this the official Diavgeia website?
No. This is an independent application that uses Diavgeia’s open data and organises it by public body, recipient and decision. Every decision links to its original document on diavgeia.gov.gr.
What is an ΑΔΑ?
The ΑΔΑ (Αριθμός Διαδικτυακής Ανάρτησης, or Online Publication Number) is the unique code assigned to each decision on publication, for example 9ΣΞ2ΩΡ5-ΝΤΩ. Entering it in the search opens the corresponding decision.
What is an ΑΦΜ?
The ΑΦΜ (Αριθμός Φορολογικού Μητρώου) is the nine-digit number by which the Greek tax authority identifies every company and every person. It appears on every payment and contract award on Diavgeia, so it shows who was paid.
How can I see what my municipality pays?
Search for the municipality by name. Its page shows payments by year, the recipients of the largest amounts and the most recent decisions.
How do I find the payments to a company?
Search for the company’s nine-digit ΑΦΜ. Every payment order and contract award with that ΑΦΜ appears, together with the bodies that paid and the amounts by year.
What is a direct award?
A direct award is a public contract concluded without a tender. Under Law 4782/2021 it is permitted for amounts up to €30,000 excluding VAT, or €37,200 including VAT. Each year, thousands of awards are made for exactly that amount.
How often is the data updated?
Today’s decisions are retrieved directly from the Diavgeia API within minutes of publication. The archive since 2010 is updated at regular intervals.
Why can’t I search for private individuals by name?
Many payment recipients are private individuals. Their details are lawfully published on Diavgeia, but here they can be reached only through their ΑΦΜ or the decision concerned, and they are not listed in directories of names.
